Whilst it is based upon young American boys and men, it surely translates to most western cultures. How does overbearing masculine dogma affect not only the young men receiving such ‘training’, but society at large and the men and women who end up in partnership with these potentially angry, dysfunctional, and societally brainwashed male adults?

I encourage you to watch all of it, to provoke thought about the importance of breaking the cycle of abuse and bullying within a family, a company, an entire culture and indeed any group in which oppression can run rife. We do not have to perpetuate ancient and long-administered cycles of dysfunction.

My journey into ‘Myself’ in the Peruvian Amazon

In November 2017, I decided to try something a little off the beaten track. Inspired by the work of Dr Gabor Mate, and needing to re-centre myself following the death of my father and more painful revelations earlier in the year, I ventured to the Peruvian Amazon to take a deeper look inside myself with the help of the hallucinatory affects of the South American plant medicine, ‘Ayahuasca’. It was one of the most profoundly painful, revealing, but deeply helpful healing three weeks of my life. This video was shot by the centre at which I was staying, a brilliantly run organisation called ‘The Temple of the way of Light’. And just in case you think I look a little weather-beaten; I was, as almost everyone in the camp had succumbed to a bout of ‘pink eye’ brought on by some bug inherent to jungle living. I can only speak from my experience of working with the Shamans and the energetic revelations exposed by this extraordinary process. I went with an open heart and was rewarded with an ever more opened mind. Whilst I would recommend this process, I would however caution you only to explore such a venture with a recognised and well-established centre such as The Temple. It is not for the fainthearted and I would only recommend people embrace this level of self-exploration if you are truly ready and desiring to take a very deep look within. Attachment Theory’ made easy

The father of attachment theory is a man called John Bowlby who first brought this whole concept into the public eye in the 1960s. From my own Google search-

“Edward John Mostyn Bowlby CBE, MA, BChir, MD, MRCP, FRCP, FRCPsych, Hon ScD was a British psychologist, psychiatrist, and psychoanalyst, notable for his interest in child development and for his pioneering work in attachment theory”. This video is not actually of John himself, but rather a latter-day fellow giving us a succinct glimpse into this fascinating subject.

I believe Attachment Theory underlies pretty much everything we do as adult human beings. The strength of our attachment to our primary caregivers determines so much of how we interact with others throughout the rest of our lives. If this video prompts deeper curiosity as to where you stand from the perspective of your own attachment, then you are welcome to call me to discuss it further or simply type ‘Attachment Theory’ into Google where you will find many reams of pages to explore.
